John Coltrane’s essential 1958 Prestige release Lush Life finds the jazz great fronting a pianoless trio on three of the album’s five tracks as well as helming both a quartet and quintet for a track a piece. The standard ballad “Like Someone In Love” and the Coltrane mid-tempo original “Trane’s Slo Blues” wonderfully supplement the album’s 14-minute title track, an unrivaled masterpiece of both style and grace.

At this point in his career John Coltrane was turning his life around, getting off the drugs and alcohol and committing himself to his art…………and it shows.
If you love old time jazz and appreciate Coltrane’s sax playing or if you are adventurous then I recommend this sacd to you with no reservations.
As with most Fantasy sacd transfers this one is absolutely superb featuring realistic dynamics,,,,,ultra real sax sound (complete with textures), great warmth and sound stage.
No one did ballads as good as Coltrane and there are a few on this one.
Listen and chill out with great jazz……music you don’t hear any more.
Highly recommended.

Coltrane middle period without a piano. Amazing tone, beautiful musical ideas, perfect in every way. The SACD sound is so intimate you could ask for requests. And remember to tip the bartender.
