Dominus - это группа из Дании, основанная в 1991 году в городе Рингстед. За всё время существования формация никогда не играла в рамках какого-нибудь определённого жанра. Музыкальный стиль развился от классического дэт-метала, который можно услышать на первых альбомах, до более рок-н-ролльного звучания на последних записях. Именно это музыкальное направление фронтмен группы Майкл Паульсен разовьет в своей новой группе Volbeat.

После выпуска двух демок и одного сингла группа накопила материал для создания первого полноформатного альбома. Материал был записан и сведен в студии Take One за шесть дней октября-ноября 1994. Выход состоялся на лейбле RRS в том же году под названием «View to the Dim». Альбом содержал 12 композиций общим звучанием в 40 минут, две песни инструментальные. На нём можно услышать классический Death Metal.

Спустя два года коллектив приступает к записи своего второго концептуального альбома, который получил название «The First 9». Релиз вышел на Progress Records и состоял из 10 треков, который был сыгран в духе ранних Entombed и Dismember - дэт-н-ролл в чистом виде.

Спустя год группа записывает свой третий альбом, кардинально уйдя от своих истоков. «Vol. Beat» состоял из 11 композиций, выдержанных в стиле грув-метал. Релиз был издан лейблом Die Hard Records 10 ноября 1997.

Тремя годами позже, в феврале-марте 2000, начинается запись последнего альбома под вывеской Dominus, «Godfallos». Материал представил собой среднетемповый трэш-метал.

Позже группа решает разойтись из-за определённых разногласий и споров. Michael Poulsen и Franz Gottschalk уходят в свой собственный проект, который получит название Volbeat. Судьба остальных участников неизвестна.
