"Set after the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the story follows the rise of independent Chinese warlords. The plot centers on an assassination plot against Lui Hung, a powerful warlord colluding with the Japanese army, ordered by the head of the Chin Wu Athletic Association."


So this is the first movie of a five-movie series that is impossible for me to explain.

They were all filmed together, I think. Two are missing in action right now. This one came out in 2014. Then two more came out in 2019, one of which changed title in-between but no one is 100% sure that it actually changed title because of conflicting sources, it might just be a different movie and the original is still out there, which would make it a six-movie series... who the hell knows at this point.
It’s supposed to be one continuity so some actors reprise their roles between the movies, but some don’t, they play entirely new characters which makes as much sense as you can imagine.

And if this first movie is any indication, I should stop right there.

But I won’t because I’m a martial arts movie masochist. Also, Max Zhang before his breakthrough role in SPL Kill Zone 2. :P
