"A young woman whose weapon speciality is the whip tries to protect her martial arts master uncle, who's been in hiding for fifteen years after getting accused of killing the man he was supposed to protect and stealing all his money."

It’s Cheng Pei Pei weekend for me until I go see Spiderman tomorrow night. This time Cheng lives with her uncle at a remote inn, learning martial arts skills from him including wielding a deadly whip. But when others in town see her whip skills, they conclude that she must be related to the infamous Shadow Whip, and an escalating number of people with grudges come to tell her that her “Uncle Fang” is a no-good piece of shit thief who stole jewellery and ruined their lives.
One of them is even Yueh Hua, Cheng’s co-star (Drunken Cat) from her breakout hit Come Drink With Me.
Who is Cheng to believe? She sets out to find out the truth about the Shadow Whip - which puts her own life in danger.

The Shadow Whip is short and spends much of its runtime letting Cheng whip the shit out of people or jump through the air, often teamed up again with Yueh. She also dresses a bit like Santa in very snowy locations.
What more can you ask for? There’s also a ton of wire work here like Return of the One Armed-Swordsman, from a time period when it doesn’t feel like Shaw Brothers had it entirely down yet, but when it works it’s very fun.
You also get some playing with sped up frame rates as well. The mystery about Fang’s guilt or innocence is handled well too, keeping you guessing.

You also get a scene where Cheng enters the inn to find sixteen dudes all dressed in black with capes waiting for her. It’s crazy visuals like that which bring me back again and again to wuxia films ;)
