Plan RPO and RTO, build failover clusters, replicate with Hyper-V Replica, back up to Azure, recover Active Directory
What you'll learn
⚡ Tell business continuity and disaster recovery apart, and write a recovery plan your team can actually follow under pressure
⚡ Set RPO and RTO for a service and choose the protection method that meets them, instead of guessing
⚡ Build and run a Windows Server failover cluster, including a general-use file server cluster, step by step
⚡ Configure cluster quorum, witnesses and cluster roles so the cluster survives the loss of a node or a whole site
⚡ Stretch a cluster across two sites and replicate the storage between them with Storage Replica
⚡ Protect virtual machines with Hyper-V Replica, and fail them over when the primary host is gone
⚡ Back up and restore Windows Server, including deduplicated volumes, and take a first backup with Veeam Backup and Replication
⚡ Recover deleted Active Directory objects with the Recycle Bin, with LDP, with PowerShell and with an authoritative restore
⚡ Protect machines with Azure Backup and a Recovery Services vault, and fail over to Azure with Azure Site Recovery
⚡ Back up, restore, copy and migrate Group Policy Objects, and back up DNS zones
Requirements
❗ Working knowledge of Windows Server — you can install a role and use Server Manager
❗ Some familiarity with Active Directory and Hyper-V is helpful, but every topic starts from the beginning
❗ A lab to practise in: two or three virtual machines, or a free Azure trial for the Azure sections
❗ No disaster recovery experience is assumed
