Dead Space: Downfall este povestea unor mineri spatiali care se afla la bordul unei nave uriase, pe care o folosesc pentru a crapa in doua intregi planete si a sustrage minereul dorit. In urma unor "excavari" spatiale, echipajul descopera urme de viata extraterestra. Dar cand ei inlatura acele obiecte descoperite, ei elibereaza o specie de extraterestrii foarte periculoasa, care a fost "inmormantata" in strafundurile lui Aegis-7, aceasta planeta izolata si indepartata. In urma eliberarii acestor extraterestrii, incepe lupta pentru supravietuire. Povestea ii urmareste pe acesti mineri si membrii ai echipajului USG Ishimura, confruntandu-se cu ceva ce nu le-a mai fost data sa vada pana acum, o invazie letala si groteasca, care are un singur scop, distrugerea.
