Shaw Brothers musical about three Showgirls chasing millionaires.
Little Pity, Greedy Cat, and The Love Expert are three Hong Kong showgirls who each want to find the man of their dreams: a sugar daddy.
Cue an old-fashioned, globetrotting musical where each gal learns in their own way - from competing with a wealthy married woman to international diamond smuggling - that money isn’t everything.
For what it’s worth, it’s also the horniest Inoue I’ve seen by far, the filthiest (but maybe that was just a result of the rather liberal English subtitle translation), and quite dark (Little Pity attempts to hang herself when her waiter boyfriend dumps her for a rich heiress) though it lacks the lavish set pieces of his best films.
But this is also the type of movie that features wacky optical transitions (i.e. iris-in / iris-out, like in a Looney Tunes short) and an all-out pie fight scene about fifteen minutes in, so there’s a balance between its lightness and the more dastardly aspects. Also: a fashion film, for fucking sure.
