“Easy Virtue” is a social comedy based on Noël Coward’s play of the same name. The play was previously made into the silent movie “Easy Virtue” (1928) by Alfred Hitchcock. This version is directed by Stephan Elliott, written by Elliott and Sheridan Jobbins, and stars Jessica Biel, Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, and Kristin Scott Thomas. Judging from the IMDB rating, 6.9 out of 10 with 662 votes, it should be a good one that is enjoyable to folks on both sides of the pond.

A young Englishman marries a glamorous American. When he brings her home to meet the parents, she arrives like a blast from the future - blowing their entrenched British stuffiness out the window. This ‘period piece’ set in the (roaring) 1920’s is a very intriguing and entertaining hour and a half. The acting, as could be expected from such a cast, is uniformly excellent with outstanding perforamces from Jessica Biel and Kristin Scott Thomas. That clash of culture, set in a time of almost identical financial boom and bust, is at the heart of Stephan Elliott's excellent adaptation. "Easy Virtue" is all the things a Noël Coward film should be - it's smart, sexy, funny, engaging, shrewd, witty and wonderful.
