Arjan is een van de duizenden Nederlandse kolonisten die gevlucht zijn uit Zuid-Afrika naar rijkere landen na de oorlog tegen de Britten. Nadat Maori Kereama ten onrechte wordt verdacht van het vermoorden van een Britse officier is hij gedwongen te vluchten naar het platteland. Op zijn hielen zit Arjan en een groep bloeddorstige officieren die elk een aandeel in de beloning willen die uitgeloofd is voor het vangen van Kereama. Maar wanneer Arjan, een ervaren spoorzoeker, zijn eigen route neemt in een poging hem te vinden ontstaan de meest onwaarschijnlijke verwantschappen. Doordat zowel Arjan als Kereama de oorlog tegen de Britten hebben verloren vinden zij elkaar uiteindelijk in een wederzijds gevoel van woede een verlies.

After Maori Kereama was wrongly suspected of the murder of a British officer, he is forced to flee to the countryside. Arjan on his heels and a bloodthirsty group of officers who each want a share in the reward that is honoring to catch Kereama. But when Arjan, an experienced tracker, takes his own route in an attempt to find him create the most unlikely relationships. As well as Arjan Kereama the war against the British have lost eventually find each other in a mutual feeling of anger one loss.
