Adam Cramer (William Shatner), dronkelap en nietsnut, is lid van een belangrijk blank genootschap. Als het Amerikaanse Congres een wet aanneemt waardoor blanke en zwarte scholen geïntegreerd zullen worden, trekt hij naar een stadje in het zuiden. Hij probeert de blanke bevolking daar zo te beïnvloeden dat ze tegen de wet gaan protesteren bij de scholen.
