Marcus (Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson) wordt geboren in Queens, een van de armste en meest
beruchte wijken van New York. Hij groeit op in een wereld van geweld en drugs, maar
koestert de wens om later een rapper te worden. Als zijn moeder wordt vermoord, komt hij
in het criminele circuit terecht. Marcus wordt een drugsdealer om de huur te kunnen
betalen. Hij pikt de wetten van de straat snel op en bouwt in korte tijd een klein
fortuin, een lang strafblad en daarmee een beruchte reputatie op. Door zijn wrede
levensstijl waar hij niet altijd mentaal tegen bestand is, begint hij teksten te
schrijven over gebeurtenissen in zijn leven. Wanneer hij bij een mislukte drugsdeal
wordt neergeschoten, wordt Martin gedwongen zijn leven te veranderen.

De populaire rapper Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson is de charismatische drijfveer geweest
achter het keiharde drama 'Get Rich or Die Tryin''. Het verhaal is gebaseerd op zijn
eigen leven en 50 Cent speelt dan ook zelf de hoofdrol. Wat dat betreft heeft de film
veel weg van '8 Mile' over het levensverhaal van Eminem. 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'' werd
