Germania, 1968: le figlie dei un prete protestante Marianna e Juliane conbattono entrambe per cambiare la società. Ma agiscono in modo differente tra loro: Juliane è una giornalista femminista, mentre la sorella si unisce ad un'organizzazione terroristica. Marianna viene catturate e sbattuta in isolamento , la sorella sarà il suo unico collegamento con il resto del mondo. In seguito Marianne ed altri terroristi detenuti, vengono ritrovati morti in cella. Si parla ufficialmente di suicidio ma Julianne non è convinta...
