Stand by Me according to the documentary History of Rock n Roll, Ben E. King had no intention of recording the song himself when he wrote it, King had written the song for The Drifters, who passed on the chance to record it.

It was not until after the Spanish Harlem recording session that he had some studio time left over, the sessions producers, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, asked if he had any more songs and King played Stand by Me on the piano for them.
They liked it and called all the studio musicians back in to record it.
The song was not released on an album until it had been out as a single for two years.

Under the Boardwalk is a hit pop song written by Kenny Young and Arthur Resnick and recordedby The Drifters in 1964.
The song was set to be recorded on May 21, 1964, but the bands lead singer, Rudy Lewis, unexpectedly died of a heroin overdose the night before.

Jimmy Ruffin (born May 7, 1939) is an American soul singer, and elder brother of the late David Ruffin of The Temptations.
He had several hit records between the 1960s and 1980s, the most successful being
What Becomes of the Brokenhearted.

Percy Sledge (born November 25, 1940) is an American R&B and soul performer who recorded the hit When a Man Loves a Woman in 1966.
The songs inspiration came when Sledg's girlfriend left him for a modeling career after he was laid off from construction job in late 1965
