Dredd neemt ons mee naar de ruige straten van Mega City One, een eenzame oase van quasi-beschaving op de vervloekte Aarde. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is de meest gevreesde rechter van de Straatrechters, met de macht om de wet te handhaven, overtreders te bestraffen en hen – indien nodig – ter plekke te executeren. Hij neemt het samen met de aspirant-rechter Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), die paranormale krachten bezit, op tegen Ma-Ma (Lena Headey),het hoofd van een drugsbende die handelt in een nieuwe drug die de realiteitszin aantast en zich schuilhoudt in een enorm flatgebouw genaamd Peach Trees.
