Plot:
A film crew is in Southeast Asia filming a Vietnam-war memoir. It's early in the shooting, but they're already behind schedule and over budget. On the day an accident befalls the novice director, the cast and crew are attacked by a gang of poppy-growing local drug dealers, except the cast and crew don't realize these aren't actors who are stalking them. The thugs kidnap Tugg Speedman, an actor whose star seems on the decline, and it's up to the rest of the ragtag team to band together long enough to attempt his rescue. But will Tugg want to leave?

Trama:
Il divo dei film d'azione, in declino, Tugg Speedman, il cinque volte premio Oscar Kirk Lazarus, l'attore comico eroinomane Jeff Fats Portnoy, il rapper Alpa Chino e l'attore esordiente Kevin Sandusky sono lo sgangherato cast di un kolossal sulla guerra in Vietnam, basato su Tropic Thunder, le memorie del veterano di guerra John Quadrifoglio Tayback, che ha perso entrambe le mani in combattimento. Le riprese non vanno come dovrebbero, dopo aver perso oltre 4 milioni di dollari per una imponente esplosione non ripresa dalle telecamere ed essere in ritardo sulla tabella di marcia di un mese, il regista inglese Damian Cockburn (Steve Coogan), spinto dalla pressione del produttore Les Grossman (Tom Cruise) e da John Quadrifoglio Tayback, decide di portare a termine le riprese del film ad ogni costo.
