Is it possible to get away with yet another Kinks compilation after more than 30 years?
Surprisingly enough, the answer is yes.

This CD covers all of their singles chronologically from the very start of their career
(Long Tall Sally) until Apeman in 1971.
Later singles such as their hit "Come Dancing" are not included.

The main reason why this compilation is so good is the high quality of the sound production
for songs recorded in the sixties.

The songs cover the many phases of their hitmaking career from the rocky "You Really Got Me",
(supposedly the first Heavy Metal riff), through their pop and hippy phases to the quirkiness
of Plastic Man, Lola and Apeman.

Also included as with most Kinks compilations are the Dave Davies solo hits Death of a Clown
and Susannah's Still Alive.

Songs later successfully covered by other artists include All Day and All of the Night,
Days and David Watts (covered by The Stranglers, Kirsty MacColl and The Jam
although Stop Your Sobbing is not here as The Kinks did not release it as a single
