Het verhaal speelt zich af in de nabije toekomst waar mensen een geïsoleerd bestaan leiden. Interactie tussen mensen vindt plaats middels surrogaat-robotten, een mooiere versie van hun menselijke tegenhanger. FBI-agenten onderzoeken de moord op een student die connecties heeft met het brein dat ooit de high-tech robot ontwierp en realiseerde. Al spoedig stuit men op een heel complot. Dit mysterie levert de nodige hoofdbrekens op aangezien de robotten bijna helemaal identiek zijn aan hun bezitters.

Storyline

People are living their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates -- sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It's an ideal world where crime, pain, fear and consequences don't exist. When the first murder in years jolts this utopia, FBI agent Greer discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery.
