Review by Andrew Hamilton
This sweet assemblage doesn't live up to its title, but is still a good one to add to your collection, since it contains several had-to-find Motown titles. "Wait 'Till My Bobby Gets Home" by Martha & the Vandellas, Michael Jackson's "People Make the World Go 'Round", and Mary Wells' "He's the One I Love" were all latter-day album cuts which never saw release as singles. Only the Supremes' "Come See About Me," the Four Tops' "Baby I Need Your Loving," and to a lesser extent Marvin Gaye's "Can I Get a Witness" truly classify as early classics. The rest -- tunes by Edwin Starr, the Isley Brothers, the Jackson Five, the Miracles, and Jimmy Ruffin -- are seminal Motown tracks, but are they really early classics? Get past the grandiose title and you have a good disc for cruising.
ENJOY!!!
