Lyndon B. Johnson werd in 1964 gekozen tot president van de Verenigde Staten. Net als zijn voorganger John F. Kennedy wilde hij herinnerd worden als de man die sociale vernieuwingen zou doorvoeren. In plaats daarvan werd hij het symbool van een oorlog die ook zijn eigen land in tweeën scheurde en die hij eigenlijk niet wilde voeren.

Storyline

A portrayal of the Johnson presidency and its spiraling descent into the Vietnam War. Acting on often conflicting advice from his Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara and other advisers, President Johnson finds his domestic policy agenda for the Great Society overtaken by an ever demanding commitment to ending the war. It also depicts his political skills as he crosses swords with political foes such as Bobby Kennedy and Governor George Wallace. Despite support and encouragement from stalwart friends such as Clark Clifford, Johnson realizes his management of the war no longer has the confidence of the American people and announces that he will not seek the nomination of the Democratic party for the the 1968 election.

Matteo Juarez is een gepensioneerde detective die geniet van een welverdiende rust. Op een dag wordt hij door een zakenman ingehuurd om diens vrouw te volgen, maar dat loopt niet van een leien dakje. De dame heeft namelijk een gespleten persoonlijkheid en kan zichzelf makkelijk diep in de problemen werken zonder er zelf iets van af te weten. Al snel blijkt dat de rechercheur zich op een zaak heeft gestort waar kop noch staart aan zit.
