Surface and radiological anatomy form an important subdivision of anatomy.
When a patient is examined it is his anatomy which is being examined. Surface anatomy is the study of deeper parts in relation to the skin surface. A mental picture of surface anatomy is needed by every doctor during the physical examination of a case whether it is by inspection, palpation, percussion or auscultation.
Radiological anatomy is the study of deeper organs by plain or contrast radiography. Diagnostic radiology is one of the most widely used investigation. Knowledge of the normal radiological appearances is indispensable as a background for the proper interpretation of radiographs for clinical purposes
