KUNG FU PUNCH OF DEATH is no somber and serious reflection on a Kung Fu Oedipus Complex, but rather a Shaw Brothers-esque flurry of explosive violence. Where there is no single “punch of death” in the sense of an all-powerful finishing move, the film does feature more thrown fists than a run through Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out.
The violence here is not stylized or artistic — it’s a fairly straightforward depiction of men trying to kill each other with savage punches to each other’s faces, necks, stomachs and groins.
Final Analysis: Almost less of a “Kung Fu” film then a “Swinging Fist” film, KUNG FU PUNCH OF DEATH falls far short from a story perspective but makes up for it in the fact that about 70% of the film’s running time is people getting punched repeatedly.
