The improbable, but essentially true saga of Ferdinand Waldo Demara. After he is arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard, authorities discover that Demara has had many different identities. In a series of flashbacks Demara's life story is revealed. After quitting high school, he joined the Army with faked papers, when his lie was detected he stole the identity of a monk. After that, Demara travelled the world, assuming the identity of a sailor, a prison warden, a teacher and a doctor.
