.:: TRAMA ::.

Una navicella spaziale parte alla volta della prima missione tesa a colonizzare Marte. Dopo il decollo, però, si scopre che una astronauta è incinta. La donna, poco dopo l'atterraggio, muore per le complicazioni del parto che dà alla luce il primo essere umano nato sul pianeta rosso, senza per altro rivelare mai il nome del padre. Inizia così la straordinaria vita di Gardner Elliot, destinato a divenire un ragazzo molto intelligente e curioso. 16 anni dopo, Gardner ha incontrato in vita sua solo 14 persone e ha ricevuto un'educazione poco convenzionale quando, durante le ricerche su chi sia suo padre e sulla Terra, che non ha mai visto, stringe un'amicizia on line con una adolescente del Colorado di nome Tulsa. Quando poi ha la possibilità di andare sulla Terra, in lui nasce il desiderio di sperimentare tutte le meraviglie di cui ha solo letto prima di scoprire, una volta iniziate le sue esplorazioni, che il suo organismo non può sopportare l'atmosfera terrestre. Determinato a trovare il padre, Gardner fugge via e, in compagnia di Tulsa, inizierà una corsa contro il tempo per svelare i misteri della sua esistenza.
