Nel corso delle vacanze estive, Danny conosce e passa molto tempo insieme a Sandy, una ragazza che però deve tornare in Australia. Sicuro di averla persa, il ragazzo la ritrova invece all'inizio dell'anno scolastico poiché, trasferitasi da Sidney, si è a sua volta iscritta alla "Rydell". Mentre Sandy cerca di fare amicizia con le Pink Ladies, Marty, Frenchy e Jean, capeggiate da Rizzo; Danny trascorre il suo tempo con gli amici Dooby, Sonny e Putzie. Anzi, non volendo perdere la sua fama di "duro", il ragazzo finge di essere indifferente al fascino della ragazza quando se la ritrova accanto. Sandy, allora, civetta con il culturista Tom; e Danny, ingelosito, tenta di iscriversi nelle squadre sportive della scuola.
