It's a well known fact that Trent Reznor was responsible not only for the music in Quake 1, but for all the sound effects used in the game.
(It clearly says on the quake Quit screen "Sound Effects and Music: Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails")
The grunting noise when you jump? That's Trent, and there is a similar noise in a remix of Head Like A Hole (on the Head Like A Hole single)

Trent Reznor was also involved in Doom 3, and when ATI leaked the E3 demo version, Trent's sounds were leaked with it.
Trent left the Doom 3 team before it was finished, so it's unknown exactly which sounds were his from this demo.
But if you listen to the "pain" and "jump" noises, they sound very familiar.


So these are genuine Trent Reznor created sounds.
Ideal samples for drum loops and other remixes.
