There have been previous dramatisations of Pepys diaries, but all have taken their subject seriously. These adaptations by Hattie Naylor make Pepys and his wife ("Sam and Lizzie") come alive and much more like the ordinary folk they were, with every day worries about families, money, work etc, not to mention Pepys' relentless pursuit of advancement and women - not necessarily in that order!
