Kristel Lodema (Victoria Koblenko) gaat met vier vrienden naar een oude Belgische steenkolenmijn om het manuscript op te halen van Martin, haar zojuist overleden vader.
Martin deed als criminoloog onderzoek naar de seriemoordenaar Andries Martiens, die een eeuw geleden als â??vuurmanâ?? in de mijn overleed.
Vuurmannen waren ter dood veroordeelden die in de mijn hun laatste kans kregen.
Na een rondleiding in de mijnschachten met een klein groepje â??toeristenâ??, een therapeut (Kürt Rogiers) en zijn patiënten,
komt de groep vast te zitten in het mijnlabyrint.
Uit verveling en onder invloed van XTC oppert een aantal van Kristelâ??s vrienden het idee om een séance te houden met
het Ouija bord van Kristelâ??s vader. Wat als een grap begint mondt uit in een nachtmerrie...

After a group of youths go on an excursion to an old mine, they discover that it was the place where a serial killer named Martiens was put to death.
Back in the 19th century Martiens had to work as a so-called fireman - criminals who functioned as firemen had to detect gas within the mine
and remove it by ignition. If the fireman survived the explosion then he was pardoned.
If not, justice was rightly served. In all cases the condemned criminals never survived.
Having brought along an Ouija board for kicks, the kids unwittingly unleash the spirit of Martiens.
Although he isolated the gas successfully, he survived the blast.
But he wasn\'t pardoned, instead left to die within the mine.
Now he is looking for revenge. The youths\' visit becomes a gruelling nightmare as, one by one, they fall prey to a hidden and merciless evil
that takes possession of their bodies.
In a nerve wrecking race against time they have to put Martiens\' spirit to rest - and get out of the mine alive....\"
