Glasgow 1906. Arthur Stanley Jefferson, a young man from Ulverston in England’s North West has moved with his ex-actor parents, tuned theatre managers to Glasgow. His father wants him to learn the trade of theatre manager – you can charge the audience an extra ha’penny by showing them the new moving pictures, though as Stan says “who wants to see moving pictures?” – but Stan has an ambition to make people laugh. It is thus that he makes his first appearance on a music hall stage.
