In the beginning Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howle) is walking home from the movies. As he is looking in a broken mirror he is reciting parts of the movie that he had just seen when a group of guys pull up in a blue mustang. They start to call him a greaser because he has greasy hair and he tries to ignore him. They are the Socs also known as the rich kids the South Side Socs. Anyway they end up following him throwing bullsa wood at him and trying to run him over in their car. Finally they catch him and tackle him and cut his throat. He starts to yell for his friends and they all come running. Darrel Curtis(Patrick Swazye), Sodapop Curtis (Rob Lowe), Jonny Cade (Ralph Maccichio), Steve Randall (Tom Cruise), Two-Bit Matthews (Emilio Esteveze) and Dallas Winston ( Matt Dillon) come to save him. Sodapop jumps over the car while Steve grabs at the socs like a sissy. Darrel makes sure Ponyboy is ok and Dallas picks up the worlds biggest stick and throws it at the car.
