Een mysterieuze crimineel (Larry Mullen Jr.) strijkt neer in een klein stadje met het plan om de lokale bank te beroven, in de veronderstelling dat dat zo gepiept is. Maar wanneer hij de gepensioneerde hoogleraar poëzie (Donald Sutherland) ontmoet, krijgen zijn plannen een onwaarschijnlijke draai. Omdat de crimineel geen plek om te overnachten heeft, verwelkomt de hoogleraar hem in zijn huis. Terwijl de twee mannen aan de praat raken, ontstaat er een band tussen de twee tegenpolen.
