It's summer in the fishing port town of Camden, Maine, where Matt Fowler (Tom Wilkinson), a physician born in the state and married Ruth Fowler (Sissy Spacek), a teacher of singing live. Frank (Nick Stahl), the only child who spends a summer vacation at home, working to earn money for college. He engages with Natalie Strout (Marisa Tomei), an older woman with two children, leaving their parents quite upset and apprehensive. Things get worse for Frank and Natalie, when she receives the unwanted visit from the ex-husband and a terrible incident happens. As when the summer comes to an end, all find themselves in the midst of a tragedy that could ever predict.
