In the near future, South Africa decided to replace their human police by a robot fleet ultra resistant and equipped with artificial intelligence. The creator of these models, the brilliant scientist Deon (Dev Patel), dreams of embed emotions in robots, but the director of the security company (Sigourney Weaver) disapproves of the idea. One day, he steals a faulty model and do experiments on it until you can create Chappie (Sharlto Copley), a robot able to think and learn on their own. But Chappie is stolen by a group of thieves who needs help for a bank robbery. When Vincent (Hugh Jackman), a rival engineer Deon, decides to sabotage the experiences coworker, the country's security and the future of Chappie at risk.
