The young Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) moves from New York to a small town in the United States, where the mother is transferred. There, they start to live in the house next to the Hannah (Odeya Rush) - for whom the teenager falls in love - and his father, surly R. L. Stine (Jack Black). After hearing screams coming from the property next door, Zach invade the residence with the help of fearful fellow (Ryan Lee) and ends up accidentally opening one of the books and thus, beginning the release of all monsters created by Stine. Together they will have to send the creatures back to the shelves.
