These albums are surround to binaural stereo downmixes produced from
official surround mixes using head-related transfer functions (HRTFs).
When played over any headphones, they recreate the impression of spatial
(3D) positioning of surround speakers around the listener.
The strength of this effect varies from song to song and from album to
album, depending on how the surround format was utilized by the producer
of each surround mix.
The raw output from the HRTFs was also tweaked to remove some
distracting artefacts introduced by the processing, and to ensure the
music remained pleasant to listen to. In most cases, these binaural
mixes have a much higher dynamic range than the official stereo mixes,
meaning they have a much more open (as opposed to compressed) sound.
