In the fifteenth century, William (Matt Damon) and Tovar (Pedro Pascal) are two mercenaries in search of "black powder" (gunpowder). After escaping from the attack of a mysterious creature, they accidentally meet at the foot of the Great Wall. There, they end up imprisoned by the Chinese warriors, who are about to suffer an attack. Legend has it that, every 60 years, a horde of monsters tries to cross the barrier, to feed on humans living on the other side.
