THIS IS THE ORIGINAL. This film is in Spanish (with English subtitles) because it was made in Spain in 2007 and never released in the USA or the UK. Instead, Hollywood remade it in 2008 as “Quarantine”. However the Hollywood remake does not come near this original Spanish film. Just read the IMDB user comments for “Quarantine” that say things like “watch the original (REC)” or “the original, REC, was far superior”.

Plot: The film follows a Spanish late-night television reporter,Ángela Vidal, through the lens of her cameraman, Pablo. During one report of the happenings in a local fire station in Barcelona, the duo follow a team of firefighters who get a call from an apartment building nearby about a trapped woman. When they arrive, they find the apartment's residents huddled in the lobby. They go upstairs to find a woman who is obviously distressed. What follows is a night that none of them will ever forget.

Review: If you love good horror movies you'll love this one. The movie is shot and acted brilliantly, the sense of unease gradually giving way to all out terror. While it's utilises the POV (Point of View) camera technique for the entirety of its duration, obviously derivative of movies like "The Blair Witch Project", it manages to deliver in a way that those movies couldn't thanks to some brilliant set-pieces. This film is not recommend for those who are easily impressionable - to put it bluntly REC contains some of the most fear inducing and scariest scenes of any film made in recent times. This horror movie may reintroduce you to the meaning of the word “horror”.
