These are .mkv (Matroska) container files. If you have trouble playing them, grab the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) from:

I personally recommend Media Player Classic which comes with the pack, but after installation and some fiddling you should get them working fine in Windows Media Player, too. This is assuming you're using Windows, of course. If you're using OS X, you can get a codec pack called Perian from:

After this you can just use Quicktime, which is EXTREMELY good for watching subbed anime on. Try it out and you'll see what I mean.

Unfortunately I have no experience with Linux, so I don't have any recommendations. Of course, if you're brainy enough to use Linux this shouldn't be a problem :)

Just to make it clear: This is in JAPANESE with ENGLISH soft subs.
