Ladislaw Starewicz (1882 - 1965) was a Polish/Russian/French stop-motion animator and film director.

He is considered to be the father of puppet animation and one of the most influental animators of all times. He created his first film in 1910 in Lithuania, but most of his masterpieces were created in Russia (The Cameraman's Revenge, The Dragonfly and the Ant, The Insects' Christmas) and in France, where he migrated after russian revilution (The Mascot).

But his most famous work is animated feature "Le roman de renard" (The Tale of the Fox). He earned 10 years of his life to creation of this animated masterpiece and finished it in 1939. The movie is considered to be the real treasure of cinema and is esthetically actual and impressive till nowadays.
