Filmen var naturligtvis antinazistisk men det handlade inte om grov propaganda. Den var snarare en smula sofistikerad, om än med vassa repliker. Om det var dessa repliker eller flathet och eftergiftspolitik, som kom censuren i Sverige att 1943 förbjuda filmen för allmän visning, är svårt att säga.
