Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser) é um herói interplanetário bastante conhecido, já que seus feitos costumam ser televisionados para todo o Planeta Babum. Isto faz com que ele se torne uma lenda para as crianças, graças também à ajuda de Gary (Rob Corddry), o diretor da Missão BASA Control e seu irmão. Namorando a bela repórter Gabby Tagarela (Sofia Vergara) e tendo o sobrinho Kip (Jonathan Morgan Heit) como fã número um, Scorch tem sua vida alterada aoser enviado em uma missão no Planeta proibido, também conhecido como Terra. O problema é que nenhum astronauta retornou de lá e, por causa disto, Gary não quer que o irmão embarque nesta aventura. Porém, quando Scorch é capturado pelos terráqueos em meio a uma transmissão ao vivo pela TV, Gary não vê outra alternativa a não ser também viajar à Terra para salvá-lo.
