Henry VIII is married to Catherine of Aragon who has failed him miserably in that she has not produced a male heir. Henry becomes smitten with the daughter of one of his courtiers, Anne Boleyn, and decides that in order to get that all important son he must divorce Catherine and marry Anne.

However, a divorce will bring about a split from Rome and Anne has a powerful enemy in Cardinal Wolsey.
