THE PAL METHOD:
The Pal method of production can best be described as painstaking. Using
a type of stop-motion technique called replacement animation, a typical Puppetoon required 9,000 individually carved and machined wooden
figures (or sometimes parts of figures). The nearly 12,000 exposures were
made on a single negative using a color wheel with successive rotation of
red, green and blue filters. Combined with deliberate lighting the
Puppetoons were unsurpassed in their day for use of color in animated films.

Though the Puppetoons did see some air play in the early days of television, the Puppetoons were withdrawn from syndication in the 1960s.
Arnold Leibovit befriended Mr. and Mrs. Pal, and after Mr. Pal died Leibovit discovered that Mrs. Pal was in the possession of many 35mm nitrate prints, which were still in suitable shape for exhibition. These included films produced in both Europe and the USA.
