On May 3rd 2015, in Garland Texas, a free speech rights group: American Freedom Defense Initiative, held an art exhibit of muhammad through the ages and an art contest of contemporary depictions of muhammad.

There were 350 entries in the art contest by both accomplished and amateur artists. Bosch Fawstin won the peoples choice award and the judges favorite award for his sketch titled "You can't draw me!" - "That's why I draw you."

Near the end of the event, two heavily armed radical muslims drove to the event and opened fire with assault rifles on security and police. Only one security guard was shot in the ankle and both muslim attackers fled after being shot. They were killed by a SWAT team soon afterwards.
