Written, directed and starring Orson Welles, Touch of Evil was released
as Universal thought it should be. However, Welles wrote a 58-page memo
pleading with the studio to make various changes, to return it to his
original intention. This is the 1998 version (open matte) reconstructed
as detailed by the memo.
