Plot Nederlands:
In deze film ontstaat een vriendschap tussen landeigenaar Alfredo (Robert De Niro)
en boerenzoon Olmo (Gérard Depardieu)
tegen de achtergrond van het Italiaanse leven in de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw.

The drama spans from 1900 to about 1945,
