Ashley Smith (Kate Mara) is a single mother facing serious financial problems and trying to get rid of drug addiction. Soon after losing custody of her daughter, she is held hostage in their own home by Brian Nichols (David Oyelowo), with a prisoner killed the judge of his case and fled. As he tries to hide from the police, she seeks a way to review her daughter. Gradually, a friendship was born between the two, aided by a Christian book that preaches faith and repentance.
