Het verhaal speelt zich af in het fictieve land Florin. Prinses Buttercup wordt verliefd op de stalknecht Wesley. Het jonge stel zweert elkaar eeuwige trouw. Maar dan wordt Wesley tijdens een zeereis vermoord door een bende piraten. Buttercup gelooft stellig dat zij nooit meer van iemand anders zal houden. Vijf jaar later wordt zij ontvoerd door een stel boeven in opdracht van de duistere prins Humperdinck, die haar tot zijn bruid wil maken. Maar vanuit het niets, verschijnt er een mysterieuze man in zwart en met zijn meesterlijke vechttechniek probeert hij haar te redden.
