"Tattoo" is the first single (second overall, including "This Is My Now") from American Idol Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks' eponymous debut album, Jordin Sparks.

The song was produced by Stargate, who have written songs for Ne-Yo, Beyoncé and Elliott Yamin. The song was co-written by Amanda Ghost as well as Ian Dench. Although the official release date was August 27, 2007, the full song leaked on August 23, 2007, and it premiered on z100 and on AOL Music the next day.

According to the fansite Jordin Fan, the original video for the song was shot over Labor Day weekend. The video (directed by Matthew Rolston) was released on November 1, 2007, via Yahoo Music and on YouTube on November 13, 2007, where it has had about 18,000,000 views. However the video has received criticism from fans and critics due to the low budget provided by Jive Records resulting in a lack of plot and creativity.

In this video, a guy that Jordin likes begins following her, as she leads him to a merry go round. She is shown by herself on the merry go round throughout the video. Once the guy is on the merry go round, it starts, and she is shown having a good time with him. The video also features both color and black and white close face shots of Jordin intercut into it. It features a cameo of Blake Lewis, the runner-up on the sixth season of American Idol, who appears briefly with Jordin on the merry go round at the end.


Music Video Version 2

A European version of the music video (directed by Scott Speer) was filmed to coincide with it's re-release in Europe, due to the lack of popularity of the original. This version of the video was released on September 12, 2008. The video features Sparks in a room with several other people, at what appears to be a college gathering. As she begins to sing, Jordin is shown with a "love" tattoo on her upper arm, as vines draw themselves down her arm. Following this, the ink begins to appear on the others and the floors of the room, creating tattoo's in the process. Some of the people in the room are a couple, and the tattoo's seem to bring them closer. The created tattoo's depict images and words, such as a heart or the words "free" and "peace." Sparks is also shown by herself in an empty room, with a mirror covering the wall throughout the video. At one point, Sparks self consciously looks in the mirror, coinciding with the song lyric "when I looked in the mirror, didn't deliver." There are also recurring shots of Sparks in another room against a green wall.
