Grave Digger are a German heavy metal/power metal band formed in 1980. They were part of the German heavy/speed/power metal scene to emerge in the early to mid 1980s, along with bands such as Helloween, Running Wild, Accept, Sinner, and Rage.

Ballads of a Hangman is the thirteenth studio album by the German heavy metal band Grave Digger, and was released on January 27th, 2009. It is the first Grave Digger album to feature two guitarists, and the only one to feature Thilo Hermann who co-wrote the album but was asked to leave soon after its release. The album leaked on the internet on December 23rd, 2008.

October 2005 saw the release of a live DVD recording of the Last Supper Tour and the São Paulo concert. The title, 25 to Live, commemorated the band's 25th anniversary.

Grave Digger released their latest studio album Liberty or Death on January 12, 2007. A Double-Headline Tour together with Therion followed, beginning January 17, 2007 in Essen.

In mid August, 2008, the band entered Principal studios to record their 13th studio album entitled "Ballads Of A Hangman". It will be the first GD-album with twin guitars. Releasedate is set at January 9, 2009.
