Byomkesh arrives in North Bengal with Satyabati
and Ajit to rest as he is on his way to recovery
from an illness.He comes across a Bengali gentle
man there who introduces him to the local Bengali
community there and is invited to a party at a
local planter's residence.There he meets Rajani,
the planter's daughter(a young widow) and a few
other people.A photograph is stolen from the
host's house which features all the members of
community which had been taken at a picnic
Incidentally copies of the same photograph which
all the others possess start disappearing and
even the negatives go missing from photographer's
studio.Alchoholic painter,Phalguni whose strength
was to draw faces of people from his memory is
murdered.Instead of taking rest,Byomkesh find out
the mystery behind the missing photographs and
also catch the murderer of Phalguni.
